Dream Girl 2 Movie Review Rating: 3.5/5
After the huge success of Dream Girl in 2019, producer Ektaa Kapoor and director Raaj Shaandilyaa reunite with Ayushmann Khurrana for a sequel, titled Dream Girl 2. While the first installment featured Nushrratt Bharuccha as the female lead, the sequel has Ananya Panday opposite Khurrana. Our BollywoodMDB reviewer has seen the film and here’s what he has to say about the same. Do read Dream Girl 2 review only on BollywoodMDB before booking your tickets.
STORY: Set in Agra, Dream Girl 2 revolves around Karam Singh (Ayushmann Khurrana) who desperately wants to marry the love of his life Pari (Ananya Panday). However, Pari’s father Jaipal Srivastava (Manoj Joshi) wants Karam to first have a well-paying job and ₹25 lakhs in his account before he agrees to give his daughter’s hand to him. To collect such a huge amount within six months, Karan first turns into a bar dancer at Sona Bhai’s (Vijay Raaz) bar and then ends up marrying the depressed son (Abhishek Bannerjee) of a wealthy Muslim man Abu Salim (Paresh Rawal). What happens next forms the crux of the story.
HIGHS & LOWS: Ayushmann Khurrana is in a top form in Dream Girl 2. The actor deserves praise for taking up such a challenging character once again after nailing it in the first part. His ability to slip into the character of Pooja and then come out of it in a jiffy to play Karam is outstanding. He tickles your funny bones in every scene. Right from his body language to his hold on the dialect, everything is pitch-perfect.
Ananya Panday, as his love interest, does not have much to offer, but she plays her part with utmost sincerity. She needs to be lauded for taking up the character in spite of knowing it well that the entire film primarily revolves around two characters played by Khurrana. Such talented actors as Annu Kapoor, Rajpal Yadav, Paresh Rawal, Vijay Raaz, Seema Pahwa and Abhishek Banerjee add more fun to the film with their top-notch performances.
Director Raaj Shaandilyaa proves his mettle as a writer and director yet again. His ability to churn out rib-tickling one-liners is unmatched. Having said that, the screenplay of the film could have been a little tauter for a more fulfilling film experience. The director manages to keep the momentum of the first part throughout the sequel, but a weaker screenplay spoils the fun to some extent.
FINAL VERDICT: Dream Girl 2 is an out-and-out entertainer that you can enjoy in cinemas with your friends and family. Khurrana’s comic timing is on point. There are plenty of moments in the film to keep you invested. I am going with 3.5 stars.
