Gadar 2 Movie Review Rating: 4.5/5
Gadar is one of the most loved Indian films. It has been more than two decades since the film hit cinemas and set the Indian box office on fire, but it entertains you every time you watch it. Such is the power of this Anil Sharma direction. More than two decades after the release of Gadar, Sharma has brought its sequel Gadar 2, which sees Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel, and Utkarsh Sharma returns to reprise their roles. While Gadar was majorly set in the post-partition India and Pakistan, the events of Gadar 2 takes place during the “Crush India” campaign of 1971. Our BollywoodMDB reviewer has seen the film and here is what he liked and disliked about it. Don’t forget to read the detailed review of Gadar 2 only on BollywoodMDB before booking your tickets.
STORY: Gadar 2 takes place after the events of its predecessor Gadar. After killing Ashraf Ali (Amrish Puri), Hamid Iqbal (Manish Wadhwa), who is the head of Pakistani battalion, wants to kill Tara Singh (Sunny Deol). He attacks the Indian army. The Indian army seeks Tara Singh’s help. Tara not only provides the army unit with ammunition but also fights the enemy with them. However, in that process, he is captured. Shakina (Ameesha Patel) is shattered to know that Tara has been captured by the Pakistani army. Unable to see his mother’s condition, Jeete (Utkarsh Sharma) decides to enter Pakistan illegally and find out the whereabout of his father. Will he find his father? Is Tara really in Pakistan? What happens next forms the crux of the story.
HIGHS & LOWS: Just like its predecessor, Gadar 2 is an out-and-out mass entertainer. There are a very few filmmakers who have the ability to come up with a film that entertains all sections of the society equally. Filmmaker Anil Sharma possesses that ability and knows what to offer to the audience. His latest directorial offers everything that a regular theatregoer wants in a film – action, emotions, and romance. In the case of Gadar 2, there is also patriotism and that too in abundance. What else one can ask for in a film releasing around Indian Independence Day?
Talking about performances, Sunny Deol as Tara Singh steals your heart once again. He is terrific in the iconic role even after more than twenty years later. Ameesha Patel also gets into the character of Sakina really well and adds emotional depth to the film. Utkarsh Sharma as Jeete is also impressive and so is debutante Simrat Kaur.
Writer Shaktimaan’s dialogues and screenplay are outstanding. The music of the film is also good and lives up to the original film’s music. The two songs have been taken from the original films itself.
The only issue with the film is its length. While the older generation may not see it as an issue, the younger generation is not used to watching films that are almost 3-hours long.
FINAL VERDICT: Gadar 2 is a perfect blend of powerful action, heartfelt emotions, and patriotism. The film is filled with tons of nostalgic moments, powerful dialogues, and intense action sequences to keep you on the edge of your seats. Mithoon’s music is a treat to ears. I am going with 4.5 stars.
