Vikram Vedha Movie Review Rating: 4/5
Vikram Vedha was one of the most-awaited films of 2021. It marks Hrithik Roshan’s return to the silver screen after a long gap of three years. The superstar was last seen in Yash Raj Films’ action thriller War, which also featured Tiger Shroff in a prominent role. As the title aptly suggests, Vikram Vedha is the official remake of the 2017 Tamil-language film of the same name, which has gained cult status over the years. Pushkar Gayathri, who helmed the original, return to call the shots for the remake as well. BollywoodMDB reviewer has watched the film and here is what he feels about the same.
STORY: Vikram (Saif Ali Khan) is an honest officer working with the Lucknow police. He is on a mission to find the whereabouts of a dreaded gangster Vedha (Hrithik Roshan), who has committed 16 murders to date, and execute him and his gang. However, much to everyone’s surprise, Vedha surrenders himself to the police. The course of the story changes dramatically when he starts narrating a set of complex stories to Vikram, which changes his perspective of what is good and evil. What happens next forms the crux of the story.
HIGHS: With Vikram Vedha, Hrithik Roshan returns to the silver screen after a gap of three years. The film rests on his and Saif Ali Khan’s strong shoulders. Both actors do full justice to their characters. Talking about Roshan, he gets into the skin of his character like never before. This is the first time when we see him in an out-and-out negative or, we can say a grey, character, and what a joy it is to see him on the screen as Vedha. His body language, his mannerism, his dialogue delivery, everything is just bang-on. No one else could have played this character the way he has played it. He makes every second of his presence on the screen worthwhile. Talking about Saif Ali Khan, he is also in terrific form and delivers one of his best performances. The actor holds extremely well in his scenes with Hrithik Roshan.
Filmmakers Pushkar and Gayathri base the film entirely on the same premise as the original Vikram Vedha but what accentuates the remake from the original is the setting and of course the performances. The remake is set between Lucknow and Kanpur and the backdrop works wonders for the film. It looks new to even those who have watched the original film. The background score of the film is just amazing and so is the cinematography.
LOWS: Well, there are not many things that work against the film in particular. Having said that, its runtime could have been a little shorter. The remake is lenthier than the original. There are some moments we the film becomes a little dull. But once Roshan or Khan are back on the screen, things gets exciting once again.
FINAL VERDICT: Vikram Vedha has a lot of things going for it. From extraordinary performances to skilful direction and taut writing, the film excels in every department. It is a must watch even for those who have seen the original film.
