25 years of Pardes: Shah Rukh Khan was asked by Subhash Ghai to ‘avoid his romantic side’ in the film

One of the biggest hits of 1997 was the Shah Rukh Khan starrer Pardes, which is still well-remembered today. The love drama has clocked 25 years, and fans continue to watch it now, thanks in large part to the outstanding performances of Shah Rukh Khan, Mahima Chaudhry, and the late Amrish Puri.
Filmmaker Subhash Ghai traveled back in time to remember some memorable experiences on the set on this crucial occasion. Speaking of his experience working with SRK, Ghai recalled that during filming, he had to repeatedly remind King Khan to avoid his romantic side in order to keep the authenticity of his role.
The filmmaker said, "I kept reminding him in every scene and song that he has to avoid his compelling, romantic side to justify Arjun's character. It was challenging for him but he nailed it!”
Ghai added that he was pleased that Pardes has clocked 25 years. “I am overjoyed over the fact that my baby is celebrating its silver jubilee and continues to receive unwavering adulation from the audience even after 25 years. I pour my heart and soul into every film of mine. Filmmaking is indeed a business but a business of the heart wherein you pour out all that you have for the audience to rejoice and relish,” he added.
In the film, SRK played the part of Arjun, a guy who has settled down in a foreign country but yet upholds the morals and traditions of his native land.
