Aamir Khan distressed at Laal Singh Chaddha's debacle as distributors suffer loss, demand compensation

Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan-starrer Laal Singh Chaddha was one of the most anticipated films this year. An official Hindi remake of the American comedy-drama Forrest Gump, the film has failed to perform well at the box office. Much of this is owing to the negative campaigns and boycott trends that preceded the film's release.

As per latest reports, Aamir Khan seems to be in a state of shock after the box office debacle of Laal Singh Chaddha. While he was expecting the audiences to appreciate 'sensible, content-driven cinema', the film's failure has come as a rude blow to him.

“Aamir had worked really hard to make the best version of Forrest Gump possible. The rejection has hit him very hard,” said a source close to Aamir and his ex-wife Kiran Rao.

Furthermore, distributors across the country who suffered losses are now demanding monetary compensation post Laal Singh Chaddha's failure. Apparently Aamir has taken the onus for the film's abysmal performance and is contemplating to partially compensate the distributors.

Noteworthy, Aamir Khan bought the rights of the Forrest Gump in early 2018 with the help of Los Angeles-based producer and director Radhika Chaudhari and announced Laal Singh Chaddha officially on 14 March 2019. The film's score is by Tanuj Tiku, while its original songs are composed by Pritam and their lyrics are written by Amitabh Bhattacharya.

Laal Singh Chaddha has been filmed in more than 100 Indian locations. Principal photography began in October 2019 and concluded in September 2021, after multiple delays due to COVID-19 pandemic. The film was initially scheduled for cinema release during multiple dates in 2020–2022, but kept getting delayed due to production halt caused by the pandemic, and was theatrically released worldwide on 11 August 2022, coinciding with Raksha Bandhan and Independence Day. It opened to mixed reviews from critics.
