Alia Bhatt and Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Gangubai Kathiawadi will be available for Streaming in April 2022, after a month of delay.
With things coming back to normalcy, theatres have reopened and are crowded with patrons. Meanwhile, OTT became the backbone of movie watchers in the past two years and many people, even today, prefer to watch movies on OTT instead of spending sums of money and on movie tickets and popcorn. Many films like Tadap (2021), Kurup (2021), Bunty Aur Babli 2 (2021) resorted to OTT after a month of their theatrical releases to make it convenient for most people to watch the films.
SLB’s Gangubai Kathiawadi, which is currently ruling over the box office, was scheduled to be premiered on the online streaming platform Netflix. But, however, after a successful run at the box office, Netflix has been “requested” by the makers to delay their streaming plans for at least a month to allow the film to gain traction in theatres. From the last week of April, Gangubai Kathiawadi will be available to stream on Netflix.
Helmed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and backed by Jayantilal Gada, Gangubai Kathiawadi is loosely based on the true story of Gangubai Harjivandas, also known as Gangubai Kothewali, whose life was chronicled in S. Hussain Zaidi's book Mafia Queens of Mumbai.
The story revolves around the life of Ganga (played by Alia Bhatt), who is convinced to leave the countryside for Mumbai by her boyfriend, who promises her a future in the film industry. Her film career ambitions come crashing down in Mumbai, and she is drawn into the underworld.
The film also stars Ajay Devgn, Vijay Raaz, Jim Sarbh, Seema Pahwa, Shantanu Maheshwari and Varun Kapoor in pivotal roles.
Gangubai Kathiawadi will be available for streaming on Netflix by the end of April.
