It has been a while since the official announcement of Hollywood’s The Intern (2015) getting a remake in Hindi was made. The remake was originally announced with Rishi Kapoor and Deepika Padukone. However, the makers had to rope in legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan after the sad demise of Kapoor in 2020.
Filmmaker Amit Sharma, who is set to helm the project, says that it is too early to talk about The Intern as he is presently busy wrapping up with his much-awaited directorial Maidaan, a sports drama starring Ajay Devgn in the lead role.
“It is too early to talk about The Intern. Right now, I am completely into Maidaan. We have just completed one schedule with footballers from Thailand. And we move on to the next match in a few days,” reveals the filmmaker.
He adds that the screenplay of The Intern is currently being adapted. “It is being written as we speak. My take on The Intern won’t be an exact replica of the original. What is the point of remaking a film if you cannot take it into a different direction? So yeah, my version of the story will be different,” the filmmaker adds.
Sharing his excitement of working with Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone, Sharma says, “I can’t believe I am working with two of the best we have, so early in my career. It is every director’s dream to work with Bachchan Saab. My dream has come true after directing only three films. What more can I ask for?”
