A video has been going viral across social media platforms that shows the face of Telugu actress Rashmika Mandanna. The truth is that the video was actually a deepfake that depicted her in a lift wearing shorts and a vest. However, the original footage featured Zara Patel, a British-Indian girl from the UK. The deepfake was so convincingly crafted that it took several minutes to realize that it was fake. As the video went viral, Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan expressed his concern.
Amitabh Bachchan, with whom Rashmika Mandanna had previously worked in 2022 film 'Goodbye' took to his X account (formerly called Twitter), and called for a legal action. Sharing a thread of tweets for information, Amitabh wrote, "yes this is a strong case for legal".

The technology behind deepfakes allows for the manipulation of both facial features and voices, leading to fears of potential misuse for fraudulent activities, such as financial theft. Many internet users have expressed their worries and are calling for governmental intervention to regulate and prevent the misuse of deepfake technology. This unsettling trend of creating deepfakes has become a growing concern, especially for female celebrities.
This problem has not only affected Rashmika Mandanna but has also impacted other renowned figures like Bella Hadid, Taylor Swift, and BTS.
Mandanna's fans are eagerly anticipating her appearance in the upcoming movie 'Animal,' scheduled to release on 1 December 2023. In 2023, she will be seen alongside Allu Arjun in 'Pushpa 2'.
