When making candid statements, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap never minces words. He dares to call a spade a spade. But the filmmaker has discussed why Bollywood is failing while south films are doing well at the box office; he has now referred to Rohit Shetty as the most honest mainstream filmmaker who has mastered his genre.
Anurag commended Rohit Shetty for bringing his individuality to the plate and developing his sort of film that connects well with the audience when discussing how mainstream cinema is going through a difficult time.
"In terms of quality, I think today's mainstream movies are pretty poor. I believe that somewhere, the only person you see is himself and that honesty is in Rohit Shetty, which is why you like him. Because the rest of the mainstream is just trying to imitate what works, to be someone else, "Galatta Plus quoted Anurag as saying.
The director also praised Rohit, adding that the director realized he was brilliant at action and has worked on improving his art.
He stated that he would debate with Rohit about his sensibility, politics, and other issues, but he is as mainstream as Hindi cinema.
Last but not least, he claimed, was David Dhawan, whom he referred to as an artist, adding that Dhawan and Govinda were a fantastic combo.
Anurag had targeted Aditya Chopra a few months ago when discussing the reasons for YRF's back-to-back failures. He claimed that Aditya attempted to dictate to the filmmakers he chooses and encouraged him not to micromanage everything, to choose good people, and to let them produce their films.
