Ayushmann Khurrana's latest release Anek (2022) is yet another offbeat project in the actor's interesting filmography. The movie is based in North-East India- a region barely explored in Bollywood- and addresses the problems unique to that region.

The political action thriller features Ayushmann as a fierce undercover agent Joshua, who is on a mission to unite the country. The film follows Joshua's journey in a conflict-ridden region of Northeast India, where he's posted to facilitate a Peace Accord with the largest militant group and its rebel leader - Tiger Sanga.

Endorsing that Anek will resonate as a 'Pan-India' film, Ayushmann said in a recent interview, "Anek is definitely Pan-India. The issues it addresses are such as discrimination against people from the northeast, discrimination on the basis of language... Also, the actors are 'anek' (diverse) in the film. From the south, from the North, Bihar, and of course from Northeast India... There are actors from all over the country. Hence, this is what makes the film pan India."

On a comment from a viewer that Anek will definitely be India's official entry to the Oscars, Ayushman expressed delight. "Arey waah, I'll be really, really proud," he said beaming.

While India's beauty is in its diversity, the actor says there should be zero encouragement to factors that may give birth to conflicts. "There's too much of debate regarding various things... About languages, North-South debate. I personally think one particular language cannot be favoured over others. Ours is a multi-lingual society and every language is important. Though people speak different languages, our hearts are united as Indians. Hence, language imposition is very unfair, it's impractical- especially in our country," concluded Ayushmann.

Coming to Anek, according to a report by Box Office India, the Anubhav Sinha directorial has collected Rs 1.75 crore on an opening day. This is a very low start, even compared to Ayushmann's Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui (which opened to Rs 3 crore).

Furthermore, with Kartik Aaryan's Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 still running strong at the office, it may be difficult for Anek to pick up the pace. However, on a positive note, the trend for Anek was much better in the evening and night shows, especially at premium multiplexes. Hence, we can assume that the film will pick up in the coming weekdays.
