The case is linked to the drugs-on-cruise case involving Shah Rukh Khan's son Aryan Khan. According to the CBI, Wankhede and four other accused requested Rs 25 crore from actor Shah Rukh Khan as a bribe not to frame his son Aryan after drugs were allegedly recovered from the cruise liner. Wankhede approached the high court in May seeking interim protection from any coercive action, and he was granted interim protection from any coercive action.
On Wednesday, Wankhede's lawyers, Aabad Ponda, Rizwan Merchant, and Sneha Sanap, asked the court for permission to amend the petition to include additional grounds pertaining to sections under which a person who offers/gives money to a public worker in order to influence him or her and obtain undue advantage is prohibited.

Wankhede's plea was allowed to be amended by a division bench of Justices, but no further revisions were authorised. The judge scheduled a hearing on the modified plea for July 20 and directed the CBI to answer before then. The court extended Wankhede's temporary protection until July 20.
