Atul Kulkarni who wrote ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ added to the North vs South debate

Atul Kulkarni has written the upcoming film ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’. The film is an official remake of the popular Hollywood film ‘Forrest Gump’ led by Tom Hanks. The film was a highlight in Hanks's career and was extremely well received by the audience. The upcoming Hindi remake has Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor together. The audience last saw this duo in ‘Talaash’. The writer Atul shared his thoughts on the North vs South debate.

Writer Atul was recently asked about the debate on North vs South. The writer clearly explained how he does not think about the debate. He expressed how Pan Indian films have been made for a long time and enjoyed by the audience. Saying, "I don't really think about all these things. I believe people watch what they like. We take pride in producing the highest number of films as a nation in the world, and we take pride as a nation having such a rich history of filmmaking. Suddenly we love to make discrimination [over language]. I have never understood this."

He further expressed how he feels the responsibility of a filmmaker is to tell a story in a beautiful way. Thinking about anything else is not a responsibility. Atul was also asked about nerves especially when the release of the film is so near. To which he explained that he has learnt to not stress about the release in the span of his twenty-two-year career. Stating that Bollywood films do not perform well when he takes any pressure. He shared "You cannot dictate to the audience whether to watch it or not to watch any film. Right? It just depends on the merit. If people like it, people will see the film. I think it is a completely independent process."

The promotions for the film are in full swing and Aamir Khan recently joined Naga Chaitanya and Chiranjeevi at a press event. The trio answered questions from the media about the film. Actor Aamir also wowed everyone with a behind-the-scenes video showing Naga Chaitanya’s character Balaraju in the film. In the video, the star spoke about the experience of collaborating with Aamir and how he was saddened when it came time to wrap up work. The film ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ will release on the 11th of August this year.
