Bawaal: Varun Dhawan Responds To Auschwitz Dialogue Criticism, Shares His Views About ‘Oppenheimer’ Bhagavad Gita Scene

The release of ‘Bawaal’, starring Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor, on Amazon Prime Video last Friday drew mixed reviews from viewers and critics. The movie has been a hot topic on the internet ever since it was released. ‘Bawaal’ has drawn appreciation for its unique and captivating plot. On the other hand, the film directed by Nitesh Tiwari has also come under fire for making an offensive comparison between the love story of the leads and World War II. In response to criticism of a specific moment, Varun Dhawan now implicitly alludes to the ‘Oppenheimer’ Bhagavad Gita incident.

The line "every relationship goes through its Auschwitz" refers to the Nazi Germany concentration camp at Auschwitz, where Jews were murdered, and it has drawn controversy. The internet trolls ‘Bawaal’ for its tone-deaf portrayal of World War II and for equating the horrors of the Holocaust with lead pairings. Varun Dhawan addressed the criticism for this specific sequence in an interview. He questions how sensitive moviegoers may be when viewing a Hollywood production.

Ajay Dixit's actor Varun Dhawan stated he is used to criticism and is ok with it. Although he values other people's viewpoints, he is unable to comprehend the same sensitivity or trigger when seeing a Hollywood production. They are free to do and display anything, he continued, and you will see that done well.

The actor appears to be disappointed that the audience was upset by a specific moment in ‘Bawaal’ yet is fine with the substance of English films.

Varun Dhawan made a subtle jab at the contentious Bhagavad Gita sex scene that Christopher Nolan directed by ‘Oppenheimer’ by posing the question, "How are people okay with it?" Without specifically referencing ‘Oppenheimer’, he implied, “people who felt very triggered after watching the small scene from a recently released film but it's a scene that is very important to our culture and our country but that is okay for you.”

He wonders where the criticism went at the time since you want to get personal with Bollywood movies. He went on to say, “You cannot have a different yardstick to measure everyone and it should be the same. There is no need for judging films this way."

The story of a married couple in ‘Bawaal’ takes place after their marriage and is set during World War II. Director Nitesh Tiwari's imaginative vision for the film stars Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor in the key roles. On July 21st, the movie that was made under the Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment brand became available on Amazon Prime Video.
