Dharmendra RESPONDS To Jaya Bachchan - Could Have Played ‘Sholay’s’ Basanti Instead Of Hema Malini (Details Inside )

In the forthcoming movie Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, Bollywood legends Dharmendra and Jaya Bachchan will finally share screen time. However, the pair have frequently captured hearts with their on-screen chemistry and performances in a number of classic films. In the 1971 movie Guddi, Jaya Bachchan confessed to crushing on Dharmendra and fell in love with him.

When Jaya Bachchan first met the charming Dharmendra, she once admitted that she hid behind a sofa. She referred to Dharmendra as a "Greek God" and recounted their first meeting when she made an appearance on Koffee with Karan in 2007. "You know, when I first met him and was introduced to him, there was a sofa like this," she said. I went and ran away from it. I felt very anxious! I was at a loss for what to do. This amazing-looking dude was there. He was dressed like a Greek God with white shirt and white pants, as I can still clearly recall. She furthermore remarked that she could have played Basanti in place of Hema Malini in ‘Sholay’.

While the two are now promoting their new Karan Johar-directed movie Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, Dharmendra recently addressed the rumour that Jaya had a thing for him back in the 1970s. The 87-year-old described Jaya's kindness towards him as love and respect in an interview. "This is her love and respect speaking," he remarked. Jaya and Amitabh are people I've known for a very long time. I still recall the good experiences we had while filming the Sholay movie. He continued by recalling how the entire film team had operated as "one big family." For the uninitiated, Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan wed in 1973 after first meeting in the early 1970s.

Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh play the key characters in Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani. The movie is scheduled to open in theatres on July 28, 2023, despite the intense anticipation.
