Dia Mirza Condemns Stalking in RHTDM; Would Question Some Elements Of A Feature Film Offer Made Today

The 2001 film "Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein," was one of the biggest hits of its time, which starred R Madhavan, Saif Ali Khan, and Dia Mirza. The film still resonates strongly with today's youth, but there have been instances in which young people have criticised it.

Dia Mirza, who won the hearts of many young people after the film's release, has said that if she were offered "RHTDM" today, she would have asked the writers to make changes before agreeing to star in the film.

In "RHTDM," Madhavan portrays Maddy, a man who falls in love with Reena (Dia Mirza) and begins stalking her and telling her lies by pretending to be Sam (Saif Ali Khan), with whom Reena had been having marriage discussions. After learning the truth, Reena breaks up with Maddy, but she eventually marries Maddy's brother because she truly loves him.

Dia Mirza said in a magazine interview that she would have reservations about the film's depiction of stalking if it were presented to her today. She goes on to say that Maddy's actions in the film are terrible because she not only stalks the girl but also lies to her. The actress expresses that there is no justification for stalking and lying," despite the fact that some films with similar scenes have performed fairly well at the box office in recent years, suggesting that we no longer view stalking as bad as a culture. She continues by saying that the movies have contributed to the normalisation of dishonesty.
