Kangana Ranaut, well known for her performance in the hit party song London Thumakda from the movie Queen, claimed she was not paid a "insane amount of money" to perform at weddings and private parties. In order to make her point, the actor released a vintage clip of the singer Asha Bhosle discussing Lata Mangeshkar's opposition to this practice.
Kangana Ranaut had posted a long video of Asha Bhosle from a reality programme and shared her thoughts, "Agree. Even I never danced in weddings or private parties, even though I have the most popular songs…denied insane amount of money…glad to come across this video… Lataji truly so inspiring."
In the video, Asha discusses how Lata Mangeshkar, the famed singer who is her older sister, was once offered a million dollars to perform at a wedding, but she turned it down. Speaking of the invitation, Asha claims in the video that, “Kaha 2 ghante sirf aap darshan dijiye humari shadi mein… ( they told her to simply attend our wedding for two hours.)”
Among the best vocalists from India is Lata Mangeshkar. She passed away this year in February. When Lata wasn't given a tribute at the Grammys and the Oscars, which were both held days following her passing, Kangana objected. She had at the time demanded a boycott of such prizes on Instagram. “We must take strong stands against any local awards who claim to be international and yet ignore and intentionally sideline legendary artists because of their race or ideologies... both Oscar and Grammy failed to give tribute to Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar Ji... our media should totally boycott these biassed local events who claim to be global awards.”
On Thursday, Kangana also mentioned her friend Chhaya Momaya, whose son Dheer Momaya is a co-producer of the recent Oscar nominee Gujarati film Chhello Show (Last Film Show). The movie is one of 15 that have been chosen for the Best International Feature Film category. The film is helmed by Pan Nalin.
Kangana shared a poster for the movie on her Instagram Stories and added, "
