There was a period when Chunky Pandey, who was the star at the moment, and other major names repeatedly turned down Karan Johar when he was trying to cast a second lead in his very first movie, ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’. In an earlier interview with Sajid Khan and Riteish Deshmukh on their show, Karan Johar refers to Salman Khan as the actor with the "golden heart" and shares a story about how difficult it was to find the right cast for the role and how it nearly caused him to experience depression. However, the ‘Tiger 3’ actor proved to be his saviour and accepted his proposal. However, this story takes an intriguing turn.

In this old video, Karan Johar discusses how he was passed over for the second lead character in ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai', Aman, by everyone. Karan Johar added: " I was almost falling into depression after every horn refused, and the last time I went to Chunky Pandey's party where I happened to meet Salman, he told him that nobody would do this role; I would do it for you; I respect your father; I narrated Salman the first half of the film, and he said yes; I told him to listen to the second half as you were there then; he agreed to it without even listening to his part.”

Many filmmakers have found Salman Khan to be a lifesaver, but Karan Johar tops the list. After rejecting Aditya Chopra for ‘Chak De’ because he believed the job required a talented actor, Salman once offered Shah Rukh Khan his most career-defining role. Even to this day, SRK continues to receive plaudits for the character he played. The same thing happened with ‘Dangal’; allegedly, SK was the top choice, but he insisted that Aamir Khan would be the ideal choice, and damn right he was.
