Dimple Kapadia Recalls Knowing That Her Marriage With Rajesh Khanna Won't Work; Said, 'It Wasn’t Based On Any Equality'

Dimple Kapadia was a famous actress. She married Bollywood's first superstar Rajesh Khanna. Dimple married the celebrity in 1973 when she debuted in 'Bobby' with Rishi Kapoor.

Dimple didn't feature in another film for nearly a decade after her marriage to the late actor ended and she had two kids. She married a twice-her-age man at 16.

Dimple Kapadia returned in 1985 with the film 'Saagar.' The actress recounted her turbulent personal life and how she understood marrying Rajesh Khanna was a mistake when she entered his home. The National Award-winning actress told a publication, “I came to know him precisely seven days before the marriage. We were going together to Ahmedabad for some kind of a show on a chartered flight. He sat next to me all along but did not utter a word. Just as the flight was about to land, he turned towards me, looked hard into my eyes, and said he wanted me to marry him. The life and happiness in our house came to an end the day Rajesh and I got married.”

After 'Bobby,' the celebrity supposedly barred her from acting. “I was too young to realise the importance of Bobby for my career, but from the day I entered Rajesh’s house, Ashirwad, I somehow knew that the marriage wouldn’t work,” she said.

Dimple Kapadia said she was more worried about their relationship becoming a "farce" than "the procession of women" in Rajesh's life following their marriage. As his career declined, their conflicts intensified, she claimed. She returned to her parents in 1982 after leaving him. Dimple attended Rajesh Khanna funeral in 2012.
