In the extortion case against conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has attached Jacqueline Fernandez's assets worth Rs 7.27 crore. According to sources, the linked assets include a Rs 7.12 crore fixed deposit in Jacqueline Fernandez's name. This includes a 7.12-crore fixed deposit and a 15-lakh payment made by Chandrashekhar on behalf of the actor to a script writer.
According to sources, Jacqueline Fernandez is the intended recipient of the extorted funds, and the attachment was filed under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
Officials have reportedly discovered proof of Sukesh Chandrasekhar using the extorted money to provide presents worth Rs 5.71 crore to Jacqueline Fernandez. He had also provided close family members of Jacqueline funds worth roughly 173,000 US dollars and around 27,000 Australian dollars, in addition to the presents.
The ED questioned Jacqueline Fernandez several times about her alleged ties to Sukesh Chandrashekhar. Although Jacqueline is not a suspect in the case at this time, the detectives have not given her a clean slate. The actor, who was born in Sri Lanka, has been barred from leaving the country.
Sukesh Chandrasekhar is accused of using fake calls to extort Rs 215 crore from the wife of a Delhi businessman. Sukesh extorted money from the victim while jailed in Delhi, posing as an officer from the Prime Minister's office, the Law Ministry, and the Home Ministry. In the phone calls, Sukesh stated that he would obtain bail for the victim's husband and restart their pharmaceutical company.
