Ameesha Patel and Sunny Deol appeared in character and openly discussed the movie. Ameesha even said that individuals in the business opposed her signing Sunny Deol's movie.

Ameesha Patel openly admitted that prominent figures in the business had previously encouraged her not to sign ‘Gadar.’ Since she had previously played a young girl in ‘Kaho Na Pyaar Hai’ and other films, they questioned how she could play a mother in the new movie. Ameesha Patel, on the other hand, saw it as a challenge and signed ‘Gadar.’ She admitted that she still has the same difficulties with ‘Gadar 2,’ but since she enjoys a challenge, she consented to take on the role of Sakina.

Ameesha said, "Anil ji ne jab mujhe pehli Gadar ki kahani sunayi thi tab bahut se logo ne, bahut jani mani hastiyo ne, bade logo ne kaha ki mai ye film kaise karungi. Salman Khan ke sath mai film karri thi usme college girl thi, Ajay Devgn ke sath bhi college friend play karri thi. Hrithik ke sath mai 2 film karri thi Kaho Na Pyaar Hai aur Aap Mujhe Acche Lagne Lage tab bhi mai college student thi. Toh yaha jab mujhe ye kahani sunayi thi tab Kaho Na Pyaar Hai release nahi hui thi tab sabne kaha ki aap toh Maa ka role kar hi nahi paoge. Mujhe challenges bahut pasand hai. So, instead of getting dejected, I took it as a challenge. Mai Gadar ko out of my comfort zone jake apna na chahti hu and I had faith that my director is brilliant. Toh mujhe ha karna hi tha, Mushkil tha par Anil ji patiently mere sath baithte the, look pe har cheez pe dhyaan dete the ki mai kaise ek mature lagu. ‘Gadar’ is among Ameesha Patel and Sunny Deol's most commercially successful films. In fact, Sunny Deol openly admitted on ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’ that the industry and distributors were against the movie and gave it the thumbs down.
