Girls' Bonhomie & Bollywood: 5 films on female friendships!

Friendship between women is different from friendship between men. This quote by Jane Fonda is self explanatory and needs to further elaboration. All girls simply get each other and think alike. This helps them build the strongest of human bonds.

Women aren't afraid of getting emotional with their female friends or venting their hearts out to one another. Hence, it is all the more natural that they understand each other so well!

Exploring the geniality of bonds between women, Bollywood too has given us a few gems that depict the myriad shades of female friendship.

Here's a look at some recent Hindi films based on the theme:

Aisha (2010):

Termed as India's first official 'chick-flick', Aisha explored the friendship between three girls viz. Aisha (Sonam Kapoor), Pinky (Ira Dubey) and the coy Shefali (Amrita Puri) in the society conscious environs of South Delhi.

Together, the girls embark on a helluva ride of fun, dealing with insecurities, heartbreaks, fallouts and patch ups.

Cocktail (2012):

In Cocktail, Deepika Padukone's Veronica plays samaritan to Diana Penty's Meera after the latter is stranded in London and has nowhere to go. Later, Veronica's love Gautam (Saif Ali Khan) falls for Meera and in the end, a heartbroken Veronica acts as a catalyst that brings them together.

While you do feel bad for Veronica, the bitter-sweet ending will leave you emotional and teary eyed.

Queen (2014):

Vikas Bahl's Queen was all about Kangana Ranaut's Rani breaking free and coming on her 'single honeymoon' in Europe. But what came as a breath of fresh air was her friendship with Vijayalakshmi aka Lisa Haydon. Both Rani and Vijay are as different as chalk and cheese. Yet they hit it off instantly- exploring Paris, dancing on the streets and doing some crazy things together.

Pink (2016):

While many would term Pink as a 'feminist film', what stands out is the strong bond between the three female protagonists (played by Taapsee Pannu, Kirti Kulhari and Andrea Tariang). The trio stand by each other in face of all the prejudice and fight their way towards justice.

Veere Di Wedding (2018):

Rhea Kapoor and Shashank Ghosh collaborated again (after Khoobsurat, 2014) for Veere Di Wedding which revolved around four girls and the ups and downs their friendship goes through as they grow up.

While Avni (Sonam Kapoor), Sakshi (Swara Bhasker) and Meera (Shikha Talsania) are excited about their commitment phobic 'Veere' Kalindi (Kareena Kapoor Khan) finally getting hitched to her boyfriend Rishab (Sumeet Vyas), they are all dealing with other issues which every girl would relate to.
