Superstar Akshay Kumar’s much-awaited historical drama Prithviraj has landed in troubled waters. The Gurjar community in Rajasthan has threatened to boycott the mega-budgeted film if the word ‘Rajput’ is not dropped from the title.
Written and directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi, Prithviraj has been at the center of controversy from the very beginning. The members of the Gurjar community gathered in droves at a temple in Vaishali Nagar, Ajmer, and protested against the film’s use of the epithet ‘Rajput’ for Prithviraj.
If reports are to be believed, the community members blocked the roadways before heading straight to the District Collector's office, where they presented a memorandum outlining their demands. The protestors said that they will not allow the film to play out in cinemas if their demands are not met.
The President of the All-India Veer Gurjar Samaj Reform Committee Harchand Gurjar believes that the makers should immediately change the title of the film Prithviraj. He also demanded an advance screening of the film for their representatives and historians.
Produced by Aditya Chopra under Yash Raj Films, Prithviraj stars Akshay Kumar in the titular role of ruler Prithviraj Chauhan. The film will mark the acting debut of Miss World 2017 Manushi Chhillar. Talented actor Sonu Sood also plays a pivotal role in the historical drama.
