Acclaimed actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, known for films like Badlapur (2015), Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015), Manto (2018) and Thackeray (2019), is in news for his role in the recently released film Heropanti 2 (2022), which stars Tiger Shroff and Tara Sutaria in lead roles.
In the movie, Nawazuddin plays the antagonist Laila- a ruthless and unpredictable don with a feminine side. When asked about his preparations for the role, the Sacred Games actor says his focus was on perfecting the nuances of the character; exuding the power of a don but retaining the feminine touch of his persona.
"After Laila's look was explained to me, I started visualising the character, his mannerism, his gait as well as other aspects. A lot of improvisation also took place during the shoot, all thanks to Ahmed bhai and his spot-on sensibilities," he adds.
With his portrayal of Laila receiving praises from critics and fans alike, Nawaz says he always believed in trying something different and this film gave him a chance to push the envelope.
He adds, "I wish to constantly evolve myself as an actor, which is very important. If I don't try something new then it gets boring for me. If I keep doing the same thing again and again, a sense of monotony takes over- which I do not desire. I entered the world of acting only because I wanted to try something new with each role and each film."
Nawazuddin, who has been in showbiz for almost two decades now, reveals that whenever a film is offered to him he gauges the vision of the maker and the intention of the film before signing on the dotted line.
"At the end of the day, it is all about the concept and the message that the filmmaker is trying to convey. Many a times, the script is so endearing that you do not worry about monetary remuneration. In fact, I'll willingly work for free if a film really resonates with me. Intention behind the project and the vision of the filmmakers is very important," concludes the actor.
