Kajol HIGHLIGHTS How Films K3G And DDLJ Have Altered The Perceptions About KARWA CHAUTH (Details Inside)
Kajol, who is known for speaking her mind, recently discussed how her Hindi films altered people's perceptions about Karwa Chauth. Karwa Chauth is an Indian Punjabi ceremony in which women fast for the long life of their husbands and break the fast only after the moon rises.
Opening up about how the event has now become glamorous, Kajol mentioned ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ and ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’ as two films that established the custom of dressing up and celebrating the festival in style.
Kajol recalled the Karwa Chauth sequence from 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge' in a recent interview. The legendary Bollywood film, which was also adapted in Hollywood, included a scene in which Kajol or Simran persists in fasting for her beloved Raj and challenges him to break her fast by bringing her water.
The sequence is regarded as one of the most romantic in Bollywood. Her film 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham,' on the other hand, takes a sneak glimpse at festival preparations and describes how the festival also plays a vital role in the relationship of a mother-in-law and daughter-in-law.
Kajol remarked in an interview that many people have told her that these films have ruined the festival for them.
She stated, “Karwa Chauth in K3G and DDLJ has spoiled Karwa Chauth for all men and women. Now they have to wear good clothes. Earlier, it was just a simple ceremony. Suddenly Karwa Chauth became this big function, a fashion deal where everyone has to get dressed. Women have to wear jewellery, poori dukaan ban kar baith jaao bas (like a Christmas tree they have to get dressed). Bhookh bhi chalegi (its okay even if we stay hungry) as long as you are looking good while you are starving.”

Surprisingly, Kajol fasted for Shah Rukh Khan in both films. In terms of her current projects, Kajol is preparing for her web series debut with 'The Trial - Pyaar, Kanoon, Dhoka.'
