Kangana Ranaut may have experienced a setback in her career with Dhaakad (2022), but she intends to rebound with the next movie Emergency, which is about the state of emergency that was declared in India from 1975 to 1977. In the movie, Kangana plays former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Two days ago, the makers of Emergency unveiled the trailer, which quickly shot to the top of the YouTube searches. The upcoming project would also feature the actor, who was totally unrecognisable as the former Indian PM. Everything about the teaser—the story, the prosthetics, the attire, and the actor's demeanor—reminded fans of the late PM.

But in Madhya Pradesh, the movie has already stirred up some controversy. The Congress has requested a screening of the film prior to its release because they take issue with Kangana's portrayal of Indira Gandhi. Congress thinks the movie is an effort to damage the former prime minister's reputation. Sangeeta Sharma, vice-president of the Madhya Pradesh Congress Media Department, has referred to Kangana as a BJP agent and claimed that she took the project at the BJP's request in order to damage Indira Gandhi's reputation. She insisted on seeing the movie with them before it was released.

Emergency will mark Ranaut’s third biopic after Manikarnika (2019) and Thalaivi (2021).
