On the occasion of Lata Mangeshkar's birth anniversary, here are five timeless tunes:
Lag Jaa Gale is still one of Lata Mangeshkar's most well-known songs. The song was composed by Madan Mohan and written by Raja Mehndi Ali Khan for the 1964 mystery thriller film ‘Woh Kaun Thi’?
Another song by Lata Mangeshkar that has become a classic, this one from the 1960 film ‘Dil Apna Aur Preet Parai’. This song is inspired by Jim Reeves' My Lips Are Sealed. Shankar Jaikishan composed it, and Shailendra wrote the lyrics.
Mangeshkar and Kishore Kumar performed this legendary song for Gulzar's 1975 film ‘Aandhi’. Both the film and all of its songs, particularly this one, are still popular today. The lead actors of ‘Aandhi’ are Sanjeev Kumar and Suchitra Sen.
Jiya Jale is one of the truly amazing songs from Mani Ratnam's ‘Dil Se...’ album. The song, sung by Mangeshkar with Malayalam vocals by M.G. Sreekumar, is a lovely synthesis of the two languages.
