Manushi Chhillar, Miss World 2017 and a Bollywood actress who frequently uses her voice and platform to advocate for women's rights, has now been enlisted by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for its global campaign to protect women's rights.
About a problem that is so pervasive in our culture, she added, "It is an honor and a joy to be connected with UNDP. Gender-based violence is a terrible reality that must be eradicated at the grassroots level, and I consistently work to advocate for women's rights in India. Since childhood, women have been socially conditioned to accept violence against women as the norm.
Violence against women is one of the most prevalent human rights violations, with more than 1 in 3 women experiencing it at some point in their lives.
‘We hope this effort will raise everyone's awareness of the negative repercussions of violence and urge people to speak out against it.’ She said, ‘The first step in the right direction is what matters, even if it will take a lot of time and effort to change people's perceptions.’
Tehran, The Great Indian Family, and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan are among Manushi's upcoming films on the work front. She made her Bollywood debut with Samrat Prithviraj.
