Mrunal Thakur shares her excitement as Jersey gets a new release date
Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur starrer Jersey was set to hit the theatres on 3rd December, 2021. However the makers had to postpone the release due to the rise in the third wave of Covid-19. The film is now slated to release on 14th April 2022.
Mrunal Thakur who is playing the female lead in the movie posted an Instagram story, expressing her excitement and joy about the movie’s new release date. She posted a still from the movie where Shahid Kapoor is seen running on a cricket field, dressed in a cricket uniform and cheering loudly. She captioned the story, “ I swear to god…This was me when I got to know our release date “. Funny? Isn’t it?
Mrunal Thakur and Shahid Kapoor feature in the film Jersey. It is directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Gowtam Tinnanuri, produced by Aman Gill, Dil Raju, and S. Naga Vamsi, and presented by Allu Aravind.
It is a Hindi remake of a 2019 Telugu movie with the same title. The story follows the path of Arjun, a talented but failed cricketer, who decides to return to cricket in his late thirties, driven by the desire to represent the Indian cricket team and fulfil his son's wish for a jersey as a gift. The film starred Nani and Shraddha Srinath in lead roles.
According to the new release date, Jersey starring Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur, will compete with Yash starrer KGF: Chapter 2, which is also set to premiere on April 14, 2022. KGF: Chapter 2 also stars Sanjay Dutt and Raveena Tandon in important roles in the much-anticipated film of the year.
Previously, the film's theatrical release had been postponed due to an increase in COVID instances in India and new government laws.
