South sensation Vijay Deverakonda's Bollywood debut, Liger (2022) failed to captivate the audience despite creating a lot of buzz. Netizens and critics alike are giving the film, in which Vijay portrays an MMA fighter with a stuttering disorder, negative reviews. Manoj Desai, Executive Director of Gaiety Galaxy & Maratha Mandir Cinema, believes that Deverakonda's statement "dekh lenge" on the boycott trends has negatively impacted his film significantly. He attacked the actor, calling him "arrogant and an anaconda."

Arjun Reddy actor's overconfidence is criticised by Manoj in a video that has gone viral on social media, and the actor is advised to revert to acting in South films. In the video, Desai said, “Why are you showing smartness by saying 'Boycott our movie'? People won't even watch it on OTT. Such behaviour of yours has put us in trouble and impacting our advance bookings. Mr Vijay, you are anaconda not 'Konda Konda'. You are talking like an anaconda, when the time of destruction inches closer, the mind stops working, and you are doing that. anyways, it's your wish.”

The Puri Jagannadh-directed film Liger marked Vijay's Bollywood debut and Ananya Panday's South debut. According to reports, the film got off to a strong start before losing steam owing to unfavourable reviews. Liger reportedly made between Rs 20 and Rs 25 crore on its first day of release. Unknown factors caused the release of the Hindi version of the movie to be delayed.
