Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar passed away on February 6, at the age of 92 due to multiple organ failures. Since then, the whole nation has been in mourning.
To pay respect, the Maharashtra state government on Wednesday announced that a music academy will be built in the memory of Lata Mangeshkar in Mumbai. The music academy will be built on the Kalina Campus of Mumbai University.
Lata ji’s last rites were performed at the Shivaji Park in Dadar. Many Bollywood celebrities, including Shah Rukh Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Javed Akhtar, Aamir Khan, Ira Khan, and many others, attended the funeral.
Even PM Narendra Modi reached Mumbai to pay his last respects. BJP MLA Ram Kadam requested the state government to dedicate a memorial to the late singer at Shivaji Park. Presently, there is a memorial dedicated to Balasaheb Thackeray.
Other than Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh also announced plans to dedicate a music academy in memory of the late singer at her birthplace, Indore. The state will also build a monument to Lata Mangeshkar. There will also be a state award named after the singer, which will be given on her birth anniversary.
