Movies that dealt with taboo topics like sex, religion, and politics were either forbidden from being released in theatres or were taken out of them right afterwards.

It is also true that the discussion surrounding the freedom of expression and the ability to voice one's beliefs has helped to foster some degree of tolerance among members of our society for those who have different opinions. This transformation has even been noticed in Indian movies. where the CFBC is currently giving many films the all-clear. We do, however, have online streaming services for individuals who are unable to see these films in theatres. In fact, we've compiled a list of some of the top films that the CBFC has barred from being viewed on OTT services.

1. Fire

In the 1990s, the movie dealt with issues of homosexuality and religion and was criticised by the censor board and the media. The audience can view the movie on YouTube even if it was never released in theatres.

2. Parzania

A ban was imposed on the movie because it discussed riots and religion. 'Parzania,' a movie about the riots in Gujarat in 2002, is currently available on Disney+Hotstar. Rahul Dholakia is the director, and Naseeruddin Shah, Corin Nemec, Sheeba Chadha, Asif Basra, Sarika Thakura, and Raj Zutshi are among the cast members.

3. Bandit Queen

The movie is an adaptation of Mala Sen's book on Phoolan Devi's life.The movie ‘Bandit Queen’ was initially released in theatres but was quickly removed.The movie featured rapes involving upper-caste men and depicted brutality towards women.

4. Black Friday

The relationship between Anurag Kashyap and prohibitions can be shown in his movie "No Smoking." The 1995 explosions and the subsequent inquiry served as the inspiration for the movie. Although it was never released in theatres, it can be found on Disney+Hotstar.

5. Unfreedom

In 2014, a movie with a lesbian couple and a terrorism theme that was one of the most talked-about movies was outlawed. Netflix has the film, which was never released in theatres.

6. Paanch

Anurag Kashyap never had his debut feature film ever come out in theatres. The Joshi-Abhyankar serial killings in Pune in 1976–1977 are a loose inspiration for the movie. Currently streaming on Mubi is ‘Paanch’.

7. Water

John Abraham is well known for selecting stories with a lasting impact. This includes films like ‘Atomic’, ‘Smoke’, and ‘Madras Cafe’. A movie like this is Water. A Banarasi widow's life is chronicled in this movie, showing how she is mistreated and unjustly falls in love. Following protests from Hindu fundamentalists, the film's production was put on hold. The movie may be found on YouTube and is good.

8. Gaandu

How often do we have to stop and consider the true meaning of life? What ‘Gandu’ is all about is this. However, the censor board refused to approve the movie because of its language, nudity, and some explicit scenes. Due to this, it was only shown at a small number of film festivals worldwide. However, Netflix only offers this movie.
