In the previous year, at the 68th National Film Awards, the Best Actor awards were claimed by Ajay Devgn for his role in ‘Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior’ and Suriya for his performance in ‘Soororai Pottru’. Aparna Balamurali, Suriya's co-star, was honored with the Best Actress award. ‘Soororai Poottru’ also secured the National Award for Best Feature Film.
