Brahmastra Part One: Shiva, which stars Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt in lead roles, has emerged as one of the biggest box office hits this year. Despite facing a number of odds like boycott trends and hate campaign on social media, the film went ahead to be a blockbuster, grossing over Rs 425 crore worldwide. This was a big relief for the actors as well as the producer of the film, Karan Johar.
However, naysayers have been pointing out that for a film whose budget is Rs 410 crore, worldwide collection of Rs 425 crore is no big feat. Responding to this, Karan revealed that the budget of Rs 410 crore is for the entire Brahmastra triology, and not just the first part which released this year on September 09.
“It’s a three-film budget. Assets and properties created for the first part will move to the second film and then to third film. When all the three films are made, it will be a big success in terms of monetary value, Johar told a leading entertainment portal.
Speaking on the negativity faced by Brahmastra Part One: Shiva before release, Karan said, “While I have no problems with people’s opinions, I sometimes feel sad; because some go from being critical to being negative. We are all part of the same industry but sometimes people within the industry, who call themselves members of the media as well, celebrate ruination of a film. I feel that is never a good thing."
Noteworthy, Brahmastra Part One: Shiva follows the story of Shiva (played by Ranbir), an orphan with pyrokinetic powers who discovers that he is an astra, a weapon of enormous energy. Shiva attempts to prevent the strongest of the astras, the Brahmastra, from falling into the hands of dark forces that share a history with him.
Directed by Ayan Mukerji and produced under the banner of Dharma Productions, Brahmastra Part One: Shiva presented an ensemble starcast including Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Amitabh Bachchan, Mouni Roy and Nagarjuna Akkineni.
As of now, the makers have announced the sequel or second installment of the trilogy titled Brahmastra Part Two: Dev. While the starcast is yet to be finalised, the film is expected to release by the end of 2025.
