No clash between Akshay Kumar’s Prithviraj and Ajay Devgn’s Maidaan?
The government of Maharashtra on Wednesday announced that theatres in several big cities of the state, including Mumbai, can start operating at full capacity. This led several filmmakers to make some changes in the release calendar of their forthcoming films.
Yash Raj Films was possibly the first big banner to announce the new release date of their hugely anticipated historical drama Prithviraj, headlined by superstar Akshay Kumar and debutante Manushi Chhillar.
As soon as the new release date of Prithviraj came out, chatter about it clashing with Ajay Devgn’s much-awaited sports drama Maidaan started. However, a leading publication today reported that there is going to be no clash between Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar at the ticket window.
“The decision to prepone the release of Prithviraj was taken by Aditya Chopra only after discussing it with Boney Kapoor who is producing Maidaan. Boney Kapoor was looking to postpone the release date of Maidaan and when Aditya Chopra learnt about it, he asked the former if it would be alright to release Prithviraj on June 3. It was a mutual decision between both parties to let the Akshay Kumar starrer come to theatres on June 3,” a source in the know informs the publication.
The source goes on to add, “One of the main reasons for the delay in the release of Maidaan is because Boney Kapoor did not want to release it a month after Ajay Devgn's Runway 34 which will be released on Eid. He did not wish to have two films of Ajay Devgn hitting the screens back-to-back.”
