OMG 2: Akshay Kumar's Blockbuster Sequel Overtakes Riteish Deshmukh's 'Grand Masti', Becomes 4th HIGHEST-GROSSING Bollywood Adult Films!

'Oh My God 2 (OMG 2)', despite its adult certification, proves that it's immune to limitations as Akshay Kumar's latest venture continues its triumphant run at the Indian box office. With a staggering ₹135.9 crore nett collection so far. This film has soared to unexpected heights. According to sources 'OMG 2' has solidified its place as the fourth highest-grossing Bollywood movie with an adult certification.

However, it still stands in the shadows of the 2019 hit 'Kabir Singh', which holds the record as the highest-grossing adult film, boasting a lifetime collection of ₹278.2 crore nett in India. Starring Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani, Kabir Singh was a remake of the Telugu blockbuster Arjun Reddy, helmed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga.

The second position among adult Bollywood films is claimed by 'The Kashmir Files,' a Vivek Agnihotri directorial from the previous year. Featuring Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, and Pallavi Joshi, the movie reportedly amassed ₹252.5 crore nett in India. This accolade comes on the heels of 'The Kashmir Files' being honored with the Nargis Dutt Award for Best Feature Film on National Integration at the 69th National Film Awards. While the film achieved commercial success, it was not without controversy, with some accusing it of stoking communal tensions.

Another adult-oriented Hindi film, 'The Kerala Story', earned over ₹238 crore nett in India. Despite its box office triumph, the movie came under criticism for perpetuating negative stereotypes about Muslims. The film's plot, initially presented as based on real events involving three women allegedly coerced into converting to Islam and joining ISIS, was ultimately branded as 'fake' by Kerala’s chief minister, Pinarayi Vijayan.

Making its mark at the fifth spot with ₹102.5 crore is 'Grand Masti,' the 2013 adult-comedy sequel directed by Indra Kumar. Serving as a follow-up to the 2004 film Masti, it featured Riteish Deshmukh, Vivek Oberoi, and Aftab Shivdasani reprising their roles from the original.

'OMG 2' marks a continuation of the 2012 film 'OMG - Oh My God', starring Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal. Directed by Amit Rai, 'OMG 2' boasts a star-studded cast including Pankaj Tripathi as Kanti Sharan Mudgal, a devoted follower of Lord Shiva who takes legal action against the education system. Akshay Kumar assumes the role of Lord Shiva's messenger, while Yami Gautam portrays an attorney. The film also features Arun Govil, Aamir Naik, Fahim Fazli, Vedika Nawani, and Parth Siddhpura.

In a notable turn of events, OMG 2's journey to the big screen was marked by a tussle over its certification. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) initially awarded the film an A certificate, much to the chagrin of the filmmakers who were aiming for a UA certification with parental discretion advised for children under 12.

This decision was partly influenced by the CBFC's cautious approach following the post-release backlash faced by Adipurush, which centered around its dialogues, costumes, and visual effects. Akshay Kumar humorously commented on the film's A certificate, suggesting that it should be showcased in schools.
