The year 2023 has proven to be noteworthy for Hindi cinema. Several Bollywood films, including ‘Pathaan’, ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’, and ‘Gadar 2’, sailed into the Rs 100 crore club globally and set new box office records. Following such a successful run-in theatre, prominent Indian films are now in competition to be chosen as India's official entry for the 96th Academy Awards 2024, which will be held next March. According to sources, numerous films, including ‘Balagam’, ‘The Kerala Story’, ‘Zwigato’, and ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’, have already been submitted to the committee for evaluation.
Following India's two Oscar wins last year, aspirations and expectations for next year's ceremony are high. ‘RRR’ won Best Original Score at the 95th Academy Awards, giving India its first Academy Award for a feature film. ‘The Elephant Whisperer’, directed by Guneet Monga, also received the Academy Award for Best Documentary Short Film at the ceremony. With the stakes so high, the Film Federation of India's Oscar selection committee is carefully evaluating all filmmaker entries.

According to reports, the Oscar selection committee has begun the process of picking India's official entry through a series of screenings in Chennai. The final verdict is scheduled to be announced next week.
According to the report, the committee has received over 22 submissions from throughout India. The judgment will be made by a 17-member committee led by director Girish Kasaravalli. Several films, including ‘The Storyteller’ (Hindi), ‘Music School’ (Hindi), Rani Mukerji's ‘Mrs Chatterjee versus Norway’ (Hindi), ‘12th Fail’ (Hindi), ‘Viduthalai Part 1’ (Tamil), Abhishek Bachchan's ‘Ghoomer’ (Hindi), and Nani's hit ‘Dasara’ (Telugu), have been sent to the committee. The film's screenings began yesterday and will continue for a week.
‘Vaalvi’ (Marathi), ‘Gadar 2’ (Hindi), ‘Ab Toh Sab Bhagwan Bharose’ (Hindi), and ‘Baap Lyok’ (Marathi) are among the films that have been submitted to the committee but have failed to pay the costs.
