Sidhu Moose Wala, a popular Punjabi singer and rapper who had joined the Congress before the Punjab elections, was shot and killed by unidentified assailants in Mansa's Jawaharke village. Dr Ranjeet Rai, Civil Surgeon of Mansa Hospital, confirmed the news of his death.
This incident occurred a day after his security was withdrawn by the ruling AAP government. The Punjab police department has opened an investigation into the incident. The singer was only 28 years old.
Moosewala stood for the Punjab assembly on a Congress ticket from Mansa, but was beaten by AAP candidate Vijay Singla by a whopping 63,000 votes. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann recently fired Vijay Singla amid allegations of corruption.
Sidhu Moose Wala stirred a controversy last month when he used his new song 'Scapegoat' to mock the Aam Aadmi Party and its fans. In his song, the performer allegedly called AAP supporters "gaddar" (traitor).
His viral song Jatt Da Muqabla is well-known among his fans. The singer was born in the Mansa district's Moosa village. He moved to Canada after graduating with a degree in electrical engineering.
