After starring opposite Rajiv Kapoor in Raj Kapoor's Ram Teri Ganga Maili in 1985, Mandakini became a household name. The film has made Mandakini's celebrity image associated with it. Mandakini left show business in 1996, and none of her subsequent films have ever surpassed the success of her first. However, the actress is making a comeback with a music video featuring her son Rabbil Thakur.
Sajan Agarwal, who directed the music video and brought Mandakini on board, said, “She belongs to my hometown of Meerut. Also, the song is about a mother and is titled Maa O Maa. It also marks the debut of her son and it is a dream come true for me to direct her.”
The music is composed by Babli Haque and Meera, and the lyrics were penned by Sajan. Rishabh Giri sings it, while Guruji Kailash Raigar is the producer. Sajan also intends to direct a short film starring Mandakini.
Mandakini, when asked about her comeback, said, “I'm very happy to associate with director Sajan Agarwal ji. I’ve known him since a long time but finally we’re working together. Maa O Maa is a very beautiful song and I instantly fell in love with it. The best part of this song is that my son is playing the lead. We will start shooting this song by the end of the month.”
Mandakini has appeared in many successful movies like Dance Dance (1987), Tezaab (1988), Ladaai (1989), Kahan Hai Kanoon (1989), Naag Naagin (1989) and many more. The actress was last seen in the 1996 release Zordaar starring Govinda, Aditya Pancholi, and Neelam Kothari.
