As tensions between India and Canada rise following the assassination of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, popular Canadian singer Shubhneet Singh is receiving backlash for his recent social media post expressing support for the Khalistan movement.

Shubhneet Singh, often known as Shubh, was supposed to perform at the Cruise Control 4.0 event in Mumbai from September 23 to September 25. Among his hit songs are ‘No Love,’ ‘Cheques,’ ‘Offshore,’ ‘Elevated,’ ‘Baller,’ and ‘We Rollin.’

BookMyShow cancels Shubh’s India Tour:

BookMyShow, the sponsor of Punjabi-Canadian singer Shubhneet Singh's India tour, has cancelled the event after receiving a boycott request on social media for supporting a musician who is supposedly a Khalistani sympathiser.

On Wednesday, BookMyShow confirmed the cancellation of Canada-based singer-rapper Shubhneet Singh aka Shubh's forthcoming India tour. The announcement by the internet ticketing platform came amid considerable social media demand that his gigs be cancelled owing to his claimed support for Khalistani forces.

The 26-year-old Punjabi artist was supposed to begin his three-month stay in Mumbai on September 23 and 25; he was also planned to perform in 11 other cities, including Bengaluru, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and others.

The Controversy:

In March, he shared two Instagram stories depicting a map of India that removed both Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir, triggering a major backlash.

The posts were posted during a police crackdown to apprehend now-arrested Khalistan supporter Amritpal Singh and his supporters. Singh, the leader of the 'Waris Punjab De,' and his associates are imprisoned in Assam's Dibrugarh.

India-Canada Conflict:

On September 19, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused India of carrying out the June shooting death of its national Hardeep Singh Nijjar in the country's Surrey district. Nijjar, an outspoken supporter of Khalistan, a projected independent Sikh nation, was a terrorist in India.

While India denied the claims and removed a top Canadian diplomat in retaliation - the stalemate is still ongoing - the chorus of voices clamouring for Shubh's tour cancellation became louder on social media.

Virat Kohli, who earlier referred to Shubh as his favorite artist, has now unfollowed him on Instagram. Other cricketers have followed suit, including KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, and Suresh Raina.

Boat Withdraws sponsorship for Shubh’s India Tour:

Consumer electronics manufacturer boAt said on Tuesday that it has chosen to remove sponsorship of Canadian-based Punjabi musician Shubh's planned tour to India due to comments he made earlier this year.
