Rohit Shetty, who is known for his action and comedy films, has a special surprise in store for his fans. Rakesh Maria, one of Mumbai's most revered top cops and former Commissioner of Police, Mumbai, has been announced as the subject of a biopic by the filmmaker.
Producer and director Rohit Shetty said about the announcement, “Rakesh Maria: The man who stared terror in the face for 36 years!! His incredible journey spans all the way from the 1993 blasts in Mumbai, the underworld menace, to the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks in 2008. Feel truly honored to be bringing this real-life super cop’s brave & fearless journey to the screen!!”
Rakesh Maria said on the project, “It is exciting to re-live the journey, especially when piloted by a brilliant director like Rohit Shetty. More than the nostalgia, it’s also a valuable opportunity to place before the people the extraordinary work of the Mumbai Police when facing tough challenges and working against all odds.”
Rakesh Maria, an IPS officer, passed the 1981 batch of the Civil Service Examination. He cracked the Bombay serial explosions case as Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) in 1993, and afterwards went to DCP (Crime) and then Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) for the Mumbai Police. Maria cracked the case of the twin bombs at the Gateway of India and Zaveri Bazaar in 2003. Maria was also tasked with investigating the 26/11 Mumbai terrorist attacks in 2008, and he successfully interrogated Ajmal Kasab, the lone terrorist caught alive.
