Selfiee: Director Raj Mehta says Akshay Kumar suggested him Driving License
Raj Mehta's next film, Selfiee, stars Akshay Kumar, Emraan Hashmi, Diana Penty, and Nushrratt Bharuccha. The film is an adaptation of Prithviraj starring Malayalam film Driving License. Giving an update on the film, Mehta said,” We are done with a major chunk of the film, though some bits still remain."
The Jugjugg Jeeyo director clarified that the film is an adaptation and not a scene to scene remake. "Our attempt was always to adapt it and not remake it. We have adapted it for the Hindi audience and brought it into that syntax. Believe me, when I say this, I have seen Driving Licence just once to decide if I want to make it or not," he said.
The filmmaker also mentioned how decide to make the film Selfiee. He said, "Akshay sir was the one who suggested the film to me, I watched it and really liked it. After that, I have not seen the film because I wanted to adapt the plot for our audience, said Raj."
When asked if he’s facing any challenge in remaking a film, he replied, "Both Akshay sir and Emraan are easy to work with. I think, Akshay sir is, even more, funnier off-screen than he is on screen. He keeps chilling on the sets and Emraan is also the same. We have shot in the heat of Bhopal, but the team ensured a fun environment."
Raj Mehta’s directorial Jugjugg Jeeyo is out in theatres and is already doing well at the box office. According to reports, the director is also working on another Dharma project and is set to make an announcement soon.
