The 'N' word controversy (as in nepotism) was recently discussed by Shahid Kapoor, who will soon be seen in ‘Bloody Daddy’. He responded appropriately to those who believed that he had an easy life just because of his famous parents, Pankaj Kapur and Neelima Azim. The actor described himself as a "self-made" man and said that he and his father were "proud people" who asked for assistance.

As his father Pankaj Kapur was "a proud man," Shahid Kapoor acknowledged that he had to work hard to get through the ranks. The actor added that his mother was his primary residence. “I’m one of those self-made guys who people think, because his papa was an actor, got it easy or something. I get very upset with that because I’m like, ‘hey guys, you don’t know my struggle’,” Shahid said.
“Just because my father was Pankaj Kapur doesn’t mean I had it easy because I didn’t even live with him. I lived with my mom. He is also a very proud man. He would never say I will call this person and go meet him. He was not like that,” Shahid said. He continued by saying that he was "too proud" to seek his father for help.
The actor added, remembering how he had to work hard to be where he was, “it has been 20 years of a lot of work. And that is just acting. Before that it was a five-year journey from the age of 16 or 17.”
Shahid was just three when actors Neliima Azeem and Pankaj Kapur divorced. Although Shahid's relationship with his father wasn't always the best, it improved with time. In the films ‘Jersey’ (2022) and ‘Shaandaar’ (2015), the two have collaborated.

Neliima and Rajesh Khattar, with whom she shares a kid named Ishaan Khattar, went to get married. But in 2001, the pair split up after 11 years together.
