When Shahid Kapoor's 'Kabir Singh' was launched in theatres in 2019, he was met with trolls and insults. The film, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, was panned by spectators and critics for glorifying physical abuse in a relationship and for its misogynistic narrative. In the most recent interview, the actor defended the picture once more, saying that audiences enjoyed it. 'Kabir Singh,' in which Kiara Advani plays a significant role, was a box office success. Kapoor was recently asked about the negative press surrounding the film. During the same conversation, he expressed regret for doing Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Padmaavat.'

Shahid Kapoor said, “When Kabir Singh released, so many people refused to accept that the film was being liked by the audience. If people are liking the film, who are you to say, ‘How dare you make a film like this?’ You guys are sitting on your pedestal and asking how dare you like the film?)’ I was like, how dare? Logo ko achi lag rahi hai.”

He added, “My point is, in love, have we all not messed up? Are we all perfect human beings? Everybody deserves a second chance, however rubbish they might be. I have seen physical abuse as a child, I understand what you are talking about. But it was just about a dysfunctional love story between a very simple girl and a very talented, brilliant, aggressive guy.”

Furthermore, when asked if he felt short-changed in 'Padmaavat,' Shahid Kapoor stated that he did. In the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film, he played Deepika Padukone's husband, Maharawal Ratan Singh, and Ranveer Singh. In response, he informed, “Because I think everybody was fantastic in that film, they did a lovely job. But at times I did feel, why did I do this film.”
