Shamshera trailer: Netizens compare the Sanjay Dutt & Ranbir Kapoor film with KGF 2
After a long wait, the makers of the much-awaited period film Shamshera (2022) finally released the trailer on June 24. In the making for over four years now, the action flick stars Sanjay Dutt, Ranbir Kapoor, and Vaani Kapoor in lead roles.
The storyline of Shamshera revolves around Ranbir, who plays the titular role of a slave. The film showcases his transformation into a leader to save his warrior tribe from the villain Darogha Shudh Singh (played by Sanjay Dutt), who has enslaved them.
The trailer opened to mixed responses, with some appreciating Kapoor's never-seen-before avatar in the film, while others drawing comparisons between Shamshera and Yash-starrer Kannada blockbuster KGF: Chapter 2 (2022).
The uncanny resemblance between Ranbir and Yash’s onscreen look (with a long beard and a flowy mane), Sanjay Dutt’s ferocious villainous character, and the picturisation of the film have made several users compare Shamshera and KGF 2.
Some fans even went ahead and claimed that Shamshera will be bigger than KGF. "Ranbir will show Rocky Bhai it is possible to give facial expressions even in full beard: p #RanbirKapoor #Shamshera #ShamsheraPosterLeaked," wrote a Twitter user.
Another user also hit out at those maligning Shamshera and calling it a copy of KGF 2 by pointing out that the former was in the making even before the filming for KGF 2 started in 2019.
"Before someone shits about how this is a copy of KGF but Shamshera is in the making since 2018 and whereas KGF 2 shooting started in 2019 and Shamshera only got delayed and we can’t compare <3," the user wrote.
Coming to Shamshera, the period action film is produced by Aditya Chopra under the banner of Yash Raj Films and directed by Karan Malhotra. Shamshera is the first film featuring Ranbir Kapoor in a double role. Vaani Kapoor portrays a dancer.
Shamshera is all set to hit cinemas on 22 July 2022.
