With his high-school romance comedy Student of the Year (SOTY), Karan Johar introduced the remarkable trio of Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, and Sidharth Malhotra. Seven years later, with ‘SOTY 2’, the film's enormous box office success was transformed into a franchise. Ananya Pandey and Tara Sutaria's showbiz careers were launched by the second installment, which Puneet Malhotra directed. Four years later, a new installment of the high school movie franchise is planned, albeit with some significant alterations.

As per reports, in collaboration with Disney+Hotstar, Karan Johar is transforming the ‘Student of the Year’ movie series into a web series. In keeping with Dharma's tradition of launching new talent with the franchise, Shanaya Kapoor, the daughter of Sanjay Kapoor and Maheep Kapoor, will be introduced with this series by Karan Johar. While Mohanlal's recently announced Pan-Indian epic action comedy Vrushabha is where Shanaya makes her acting debut, SOTY 3 will be her first excursion into the OTT world.
Currently in the scripting phase, the film is slated to begin production in the final three months of this year. While the plot and other specifics are currently being kept under wraps, insiders have confirmed that production on this show is underway at Dharma's digital entertainment division, Dharmatic Entertainment. Within a month, it should be decided who will direct the show.
For the past two years, Shanaya has been eagerly anticipating her Bollywood debut. Initial plans called for the 23-year-old diva to make her acting debut alongside Lakshya Lalwani and Gurfateh Pirzada in Bedhadak, Karan Johar's urban triangle love drama. The Shashank Khaitan-directed film, though, was ultimately abandoned because of writing problems. Her long-held acting goal will now finally come true with Mohanlal's Vrushabha, and ‘SOTY 3’ is anticipated to give her a global stage to further shine and demonstrate her acting prowess. Karan Johar has carefully planned out the beginning of her Bollywood career and is making sure that her first few movies reflect her in the best light. Along with Shanaya, other new faces are anticipated to appear on the Disney+Hotstar show, and casting for that is presently taking place.

The second Hindi film franchise to enter the OTT market is ‘Student of the Year’. A web series based on Vidyut Jammwal's "Commando," being created by Disney+Hotstar, will go further into the exploits of Para SF Captain Karan Singh Dogra. Following the currently-in-production Showtime television series starring Emraan Hashmi, ‘SOTY3’ is Dharmatic Entertainment's second venture with Disney+Hotstar. The show, which was directed by Mihir Desai and Archit Kumar, focuses on the power battles and off-camera altercations that take place in Bollywood behind the scenes.
