'Bajirao Mastani' is one of Bollywood's most appreciated films. Priyanka Chopra, Ranveer Singh, and Deepika Padukone starrer has established itself as a classic of Indian cinema. The film was released in 2015. It seems that the three actors who played the lead roles in the final cut of the movie, were not Sanjay Leela Bhansali's original choice. Salman Khan, who also filmed a look test with Kareena Kapoor Khan, who was supposed to star in the movie with him. However, plans fell through, and Ranveer, Deepika, and Priyanka ended up starring in it.

Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan were Sanjay Leela Bhansali's initial options for 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam' because they were the stars of the film. Salman, Aishwarya, and Rani Mukerji were the main performers which director intended to play Bajirao, Mastani, and Kashibai. However, the 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam' couple split up amicably. Sanjay Leela Bhansali failed to recapture the duo's on-screen charm. Deepika Padukone's character was originally going to be played by Aishwarya Rai, however Kareena Kapoor was afterwards considered.

Kareena Kapoor Khan was subsequently paired opposite Salman Khan in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's masterpiece. According to popular news sources, the pair reportedly took photos for a 'Bajirao Mastani' poster and look test. For the look test, Salman Khan had his hair cut short to better suit the role of Bajirao. The poster that Salman and Kareena shot for a look test and is still has laying around at Sanjay Leela Bhansali's office. The filmmaker had hoped for certain outcomes, but they didn't transpire. According to reports, the director and the actor later had a falling out, and the movie was cancelled. Both haven't collaborated again to this point.

As Sanjay Leela Bhansali had hoped, 'Bajirao Mastani' didn't come to fruition with Salman Khan, Aishwarya Rai, and Rani Mukerji. Kareena Kapoor Khan replacing Bachchan Bahu also didn't work out. The movie was put on hold for many years before the director cast Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone, and Ranveer Singh. Then, Sanjay Leela Bhansali found the ideal team to carry out and ultimately complete his huge project. In 2015, 'Bajirao Mastani' finally made it to theatres, starring Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, and Priyanka Chopra.
