For all those of us who grew up watching films on TV, the name SET Max is synonymous with Amitabh Bachchan's film Sooryanvansham. The movie is played most of the time on the TV channel, very often in close intervals. There are several memes regarding the scenario and one thing that's clearly evident is that the Amitabh-starrer gets prominence over other films on SET Max.

Moreover, with the IPL match telecast on SET Max coming to an end, social media has been flooded with memes about the film making a comeback on the channel again.

As per reports, the run of Sooryavansham on SET Max is supposed to end in 2024-25. Furthermore, Manish Shah, who won the telecast rights of the film in 2020, is not very keen on renewing his association with the channel.

Speaking to a leading entertainment portal, Shah said, “Sony Entertainment Television holds the satellite rights of Sooryavansham till 2024 or 2025. Once the rights lapse, I’ll play it on my YouTube channel, Goldmines Bollywood! I am not selling the rights to SET MAX again.”

For starters, Sooryavansham is a romantic musical drama directed by E. V. V. Satyanarayana. It stars Amitabh Bachchan in dual roles, with Soundarya, Jayasudha, Rachna Banerjee, Anupam Kher, and Kader Khan also playing important characters.

The film is a remake of the 1997 Tamil-language film Suryavamsam, and revolves around a traditional father and his illiterate yet obedient son, following their tensed relationship and shows how the strict patriarchy causes a drift between them.

The film released on 21 May 1999 and opened to positive reviews towards the performance of Bachchan, but ended up being a box-office bomb, grossing only Rs. 6.67 crore. However, over the years, it has gathered cult following among the Indian diaspora and has been telecasted frequently on the television channel SET Max.
