Ayushmann Khurrana has subtly hinted at the possibility of stepping into the shoes of the iconic cricketer Sourav Ganguly for an upcoming biopic directed by Aishwarya Rajinikanth. Initially, it was reported that Ranbir Kapoor would play the lead role in the biopic, but for undisclosed reasons, it seems Ranbir is no longer associated with the project. Now, Ayushmann Khurrana, riding high on the success of ‘Dream Girl 2’, is said to be in line to portray Sourav Ganguly.
In a recent interview, Ayushmann Khurrana neither confirmed nor denied the viral reports but suggested that fans should await an official announcement regarding his involvement in the film. This subtle hint adds intrigue to his potential role in the biopic.
"I'm not saying anything right now. We have to make an official announcement whenever and whatever that happens,” the actor said in an interview with an entertainment news portal.
Reportedly, Ayushmann is slated to commence filming for the biopic by the end of the year under the direction of Aishwarya Rajnikanth. The project is expected to kick off in December.
Adding fuel to the speculation, Ayushmann Khurrana was seen visiting Kolkata's iconic Eden Gardens during the promotions of ‘Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar’, where he had the opportunity to meet Sourav Ganguly in person.
Ranbir Kapoor, when asked about his involvement in the Sourav Ganguly biopic, did not provide any concrete details. “I think dada (Sourav Ganguly) is a living legend not just in India, but around the world. A biopic on him will be very special. Unfortunately, mujhe yeh film offer nahi huyi hai (I have not been offered this film). I think the makers at Luv Films are still writing the script."
