He is a visionary who brought together the best personalities in Bollywood and the southern film industry to create something the audience will always remember. With 'Baahubali,' the director generated buzz before 'RRR.' The movie's characters all generated a lot of buzz, but there was a catch. And Sridevi was the catch!
The late actress was a contender to play Sivagami Devi in 'Baahubali: The Beginning' before Ramya Kishan. The latter declined to participate in the movie, and the director evidently did not take the rejection well. The actress was irritated by some comments he made, and she graciously responded to him.
According to reports, SS Rajamouli thanked Sridevi for declining the offer and cited her starry outbursts and high financial expectations as the reasons she did not accept the role in the movie. His remarks greatly angered the actress and her producer husband, Boney Kapoor. The actress stated during an interview, “First of all, I can’t believe he (Rajamouli) would talk like that. Secondly, I am not the kind to make any kind of demands. Whatever happened with Baahubali is in the past. Why are we talking about it now? There are so many roles that I’ve turned down in the past. I think it’s highly impolite to talk about the films you don’t do.”
Later, SS Rajamouli also expressed his sorrow for his remarks. He stated, “As for whose version to believe, I guess it is for people to decide. But one thing is for sure. I shouldn’t have discussed the details on a public platform. That’s a mistake. And I regret it.”
According to reports, the issue was gradually overcome, and he and Sridevi were allowed to collaborate on a film with Mohanlal.

But, clearly, this did not occur. Sridevi died in 2018, and the director went on to create one of the year's most successful films, starring Prabhas and JR NTR.
