Suhail Nayyar of Sharmaji Namkeen discusses his brief exchange with Rishi Kapoor and what he hopes to learn.

Sharmaji Namkeen, the final film of late iconic star Rishi Kapoor, is set to be released on-demand in just a few days. The film, directed by Hitesh Bhatia, is unique in that the titular character will be played by two actors. The film started with Rishi Kapoor in the lead role, and then Paresh Rawal took over after the former veteran died. Sharmaji Namkeen also stars Juhi Chawla, Suhail Nayyar, Taaruk Raina, and Satish Kaushik in addition to the two immensely talented lead actors.

The actor began talking about his fond memories of the late Rishi Kapoor, what he hopes to learn from him and Paresh Rawal, and how he was unable to serve his co-star some home-cooked food. Suhail revealed about his character Rinku that he is quite ambitious, and while he wants to advance in life, he is highly conscious of the image he creates in society.

When asked what he learned from Paresh Rawal and Rishi Kapoor, he said “It's the same thing. Their humor. They were so funny on set. They don't prepare for roles, it is so much in their skin. Their experience is so vast, they just know what to do. It's like second nature. So, that's what we strive to do in life. Humko itna prepare na karna pade, humko pata ho ya karna hai.”

When asked what was his special memory from the film he said, I have more sentimental reminiscences. Rishi Ji wasn't feeling well one day while we were filming in Delhi. He decided to go home, and we only had one shot left. So Taaruk and I sat in the car with him and watched a cricket match. He quickly forgot about going home, and the three of us sat and watched the game. That was really cool. He was like a rambunctious child. That was also the time he told me he saw my movie Hotel Mumbai and applauded it.

Not only that, but he also took my mobile number and Taaruk's. He stated, "Yaar, log actors ke number maangte hai aur mere paas hote nahi hai acche actors ke. Feed apne numbers kar do. (When people ask me for recommendations for good actors, I rarely have phone numbers to give them. So you'll enter your phone numbers into my phone)." Unfortunately, that was the end of our conversation. It's completely surreal.
